Handcuffs on the menu for Fast Food Bandit?

TORONTO - Toronto Police were hoping this gluttonous criminal was off his dangerous junk food diet.

In 2017, there was no sign of the ravenous robber who targeted the cash registers at burger joints, sub places and other fast-food outlets.

The last holdup was Oct. 11, 2016 at a Starbucks at King and Yonge Sts. and “we hadn’t seen him in three months,” said Toronto Police Insp. Mike Earl.

But that changed last Sunday when his appetite for crime seemed to return and he once again showed up for a take-out order.

A man fitting his description, and using his MO, entered the Pita Land at Dundas and Jarvis Sts. With his hand in a jacket pocket, the bandit told a female employee he had a weapon and was robbing the store.

He “demanded cash,” Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said. “The man was given a quantity of cash and ran westbound on Dundas St. E.”

Wearing “a brown suede coat, a dark, striped hoodie, black-and-white Puma sneakers and described as possibly (in his) mid-30s, 200 pounds (and) clean-shaven,” the suspect is believed to be white.

Seems the Fast Food Bandit is hungry again — and snacking on helpless, minimum-waged, fast-food employees.

And that’s a problem for Earl and his team in the hold-up squad because they fear he’s ready to binge again.

“He went on a spree in October,” said Earl.

  • On Oct. 7, 2016, it was at a Subway restaurant at University Ave. and Wellington St.
  • On Oct. 9, 2016, it was the McDonald’s at Yonge College.
  • As well as the previously mentioned Starbucks robbery, on Oct. 11, 2016, a man fitting this description pulled a robbery at a Pizza Pizza. In this case an employee saw what looked like a gun coming from his pocket.

So far no one has been hurt. But for how long?

Police have released security camera images that should help catch him.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7350, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).

Hopefully, with the public’s help, the police can ensure the Fast Food Bandit is forced to make some healthier choices for him and, more importantly, for everybody else.

Earl is hopeful he can soon be bagged so the only food place this guy hangs around is the chow line in jail.
